“Blue Bird” is a film loosely inspired by a one of the stories in the book “Painted Bird” by Jerzy Kosinski. The film creator wanted to engage with a subject that has been forever a part of human conduct. Through a very simple story and by using symbolic visual impulses he wants to encourage the audience to reflect on an universal story of exclusion. The story is timeless but it repeats itself in people’s individual lives and on a collective level.

In 1989 Ryszard Burakowski, an engineer by education, decided that Łódź needed something colourful. He decided to sell skateboards. He did not expect how much influence this would have on the whole generation of young people who would find a way to express themselves through skateboarding and how his idea would bring back life in post-industrial Łódź. The film is a look at a skateboard, then and now.
